About Dr. Nakano

Dr. George Nakano obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley with honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Public Health degree at Berkeley also with honors. He continued at Berkeley where he taught a course in microbiology while enrolled in a PhD program. He attended medical school in New York at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. After completing a one-year medical internship at the Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, he enrolled in an ophthalmology residency at the University of California in San Francisco where he excelled in microsurgery of the eye. He was recruited to become the cataract surgeon at Mid-Peninsula Ophthalmology Medical Group in 1982. During his career, he was active in the teaching program at Stanford where he gave lectures to medical students and supervised ophthalmology residents in the operating room as well as the medical clinics. He also organized a wet-lab for teaching microsurgery to Stanford residents and he participated in various committees. Dr. Nakano is board certified and practices comprehensive ophthalmology. He holds an academic appointment at Stanford as Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology.
