George Nakano has practiced at Mid-Peninsula Ophthalmology Medical Group in Palo Alto since 1982. His emphasis is comprehensive ophthalmology and includes cataract surgery, medical and laser care for glaucoma and routine eye exams for glasses and contact lenses.

Dr. Nakano obtained his B.A. degree from The University of California, Berkeley where he graduated with highest honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He remained at Cal and earned a Master of Public Health degree and continued in the graduate division for another year in the Ph.D. program in microbiology and immunology. He was also a microbiology laboratory instructor for undergraduate students at Cal . He earned his M.D. degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City . After a one year medical internship at the Children's Hospital in San Francisco , he performed his ophthalmology residency at the University of California , San Francisco . After residency, he was recruited by Mid-Peninsula Ophthalmology to be the cataract surgeon for the group at a time when posterior chamber intraocular lenses were just becoming the procedure of choice. Since then he has performed thousands of cataract surgeries utilizing the latest techniques.

Dr. Nakano is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is active in the teaching program at Stanford lecturing to medical students and supervising ophthalmology residents in the clinics as well as in microsurgery.
